ABOUT FOX HILL PHOTO

WHO WE ARE

Fox Hill Photo’s stock files consist of over 300,000 images, specializing in all things furry and feathered: dogs, cats, horses, ponies, sheep, goats, cattle, rabbits, small pets, chickens, ducks, and a plethora of birds. We love working with animals and their owners—it’s a joy to create imagery that depicts the unique personality of an individual, whether it’s a Labrador Retriever, a Manx cat, or a Shetland Pony. In addition, we specialize in capturing the essence of rural life and the people who uphold the traditions of the family farm.

For the past twenty-five years, our images have appeared in countless publications; including books, magazines, calendars, greeting cards, and posters. One of our photographs even appeared in a movie! We are always adding to our stock files, shooting new material every week with top-of-the-line professional equipment to provide our clients with the highest quality images possible.

ABOUT THE PHOTOGRAPHERS

Daniel Johnson’s favorite photography subjects are horses, but he also enjoys photographing dogs, cats, barns, rabbits, and farms, in all kinds of weather. You might even catch him photographing people once in a while :-) What Dan likes best about photography is the constant search for just the right lighting and composition to make a subject shine. He also enjoys nothing better than a good discussion on the intricacies of gear and digital processing techniques.

Dan is also a writer and is the author of The 4-H Guide to Digital Photography and the co-author of multiple other non-fiction titles, two fiction titles for children, and a fleet of magazine articles. When not working on photography, Dan enjoys playing the piano and guitar, studying astronomy, and spending time with his four horses, including “Summer,” a Welsh/Thoroughbred cross who actually has some famous race horse names in her pedigree, so she thinks she pretty special.

Paulette Johnson has been a photographer and photo editor for over 25 years and also enjoys photographing horses, dogs, food, gardens, and farms. But one of her favorite tasks is the editing process, long after the shoot is over, when she works in the studio to narrow down a large number of images to only the finest few—a task in which her years of photo editing expertise prove invaluable.
When she’s not editing or shooting images, Paulette enjoys gardening, spending time with her children, hanging out in the barn with her horses and the company of her dog, Gracie, a very talented Whippet who can actually “speak” real words.

From The Hill

Photographers often use reflector boards to control the lighting of their photos by bouncing light from the sun onto other objects. But did you know you can also use your camera to capture reflected light that bounced off the Earth itself? It’s not that difficult, but you do need exactly the right conditions.
It was a cold, windy, February day during a blizzard—but the weather was not enough to stop this brave flock of small birds with red caps. They used their short beaks to pry seeds out of dried birch catkins. These hardy birds are Redpolls.
But the deer don't seem to mind.
How do chickadees live in cold temperatures?
A pair of Sandhill Cranes arrive on the farm...only to find there is still snow on the ground!
The snow continues to fall...and presents a photographic opportunity.
A winter weather encounter with three hungry whitetail deer.
